About the event

The Smoky Mountain 1000 (SM1000) is a thrilling 1,000-mile adventure loop through the Appalachian Mountains, covering parts of Tennessee, North Carolina, Georgia, and South Carolina. Designed for dual-sport motorcycles and overlanding vehicles, the route features a mix of gravel, dirt, and scenic paved roads, passing through the Cherokee and Nantahala National Forests. Riders experience breathtaking mountain views, challenging switchbacks, river crossings, and remote wilderness. The SM1000 showcases the rich history and beauty of the Smokies, offering an unforgettable backcountry experience filled with rustic charm, historic sites, and some of the best off-road riding in the Eastern U.S. The ride is typically a 5-7 day trip and each year will will tackle about a third of the ride, so we will rotate through the entire route every couple years.


The event officially begins on Friday evening at 8am.  However, most will join Thursday evening at the campsite after work at 8pm.
